KCA University to Launch Teachers College for CBC Lecturer Training.
KCA University has unveiled plans to establish a Teachers College to train lecturers on the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), marking a pioneering initiative in the country.
The college will operate within the university and aims to prepare educators to effectively navigate the CBC transition while equipping them with the necessary skills to help learners achieve curriculum objectives.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaiah Wakindiki emphasized that the college is a crucial step toward addressing the urgent need for well-prepared academic staff in the CBC era.
Speaking at the university’s 17th graduation ceremony at the Ruaraka Campus, where over 2,700 graduands were in attendance, he underscored that many lecturers currently lack the competencies required to facilitate the system effectively.
“We have started this process, and I know it will put pressure on other universities to follow suit. There are some competencies necessary in this new curriculum that most scholars and lecturers lack and thus the need for retooling,” Prof. Wakindiki said.

The university has already begun implementing this initiative, which Prof. Wakindiki believes will prompt other institutions to follow suit. He noted that certain competencies essential for CBC are absent in most educators, making retooling a necessity.
Leadership Endorsement
Newly appointed Chancellor Dr. Martin Oduor supported the VC’s sentiments, highlighting that the Teachers College positions KCA University as a leader in education reforms.
He explained that the initiative not only bridges existing gaps in CBC implementation but also demonstrates the institution’s commitment to producing graduates equipped to address modern challenges.
Dr. Oduor urged graduates to embrace innovation and prioritize becoming job creators over job seekers, stressing education’s transformative potential.
He succeeds Prof. Olive Mugenda, who served as Chancellor for ten years. He praised her leadership, which saw the university expand programs and infrastructure, solidifying its reputation for academic excellence.
