Government Declares Public Holiday for Deputy President’s Swearing-In
On Thursday, Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi formally designated Friday, November 1, 2024, as a public holiday to facilitate the swearing-in of Professor Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President.
The declaration followed a High Court ruling that overturned an earlier order blocking Kindiki’s swearing-in after the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The Ministry of Interior and National Administration emphasized that Friday’s holiday is intended to honor the swearing-in ceremony.
The announcement, issued under the authority of the Public Holidays Act and the Assumption of Office of President Act, was detailed in a gazette notice by CS Mudavadi.
Professor Kindiki’s swearing-in as the new Deputy President is scheduled to take place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi.
Secretary to the Cabinet, Mercy Wanjau, specified in a gazette notice that the event would begin at 10:00 a.m.
This ceremony follows the High Court’s decision to lift the order previously halting Kindiki’s assumption of office.
