Kenya Signs MoU with Guinea-Bissau and Comoros to Offer Scholarships.

The Ministry of Education has solidified agreements with Guinea-Bissau and Comoros, establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide scholarships for students from these nations.

Migos highlighted that the government is actively working to ensure universities are equipped to accommodate both local and international students. He inspected a Ksh 700 million student accommodation project at Maseno University, designed to improve living conditions and create a conducive learning environment.

The government plans to replicate similar infrastructure projects in other universities with sufficient capacity. This is part of a broader strategy to prepare Kenyan universities to admit students from neighboring countries.

Scholarships and Program Expansion

The MoU with Guinea-Bissau and Comoros includes scholarships for 100 students from each country.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasized the need for adequate hostel facilities to host these international students effectively. These efforts align with Kenya’s goal to attract students from abroad, given the variety and quality of programs offered in local universities.

Migos noted that ensuring sufficient facilities is critical to achieving the vision of regional academic collaboration. The government will also identify suitable institutions for the scholarship beneficiaries, ensuring a seamless integration into Kenya’s higher education system.
