The award, organized by the AKS Education Awards, celebrates teachers who demonstrate innovation, dedication, and significant achievements in inspiring students and advancing education worldwide.

The winner will receive $1 million (Ksh129 million), a certificate of excellence, global recognition, and a platform to share their inspiring journey with other educators.

Orina attributed his nomination to his impactful teaching methods, which include self-funded initiatives to equip students with practical agricultural skills.

He uses his resources to purchase farming inputs, enabling students to learn smart farming techniques. Students are encouraged to replicate these practices at home, boosting their families’ diets and incomes.

Additionally, Orina leverages social media to share his passion and attract support for needy children. Through these platforms, he solicits donations for essentials such as school uniforms, shoes, and other necessities, improving the lives of underprivileged students.

Inspiring the Community

After learning about his nomination, Orina expressed his gratitude and called for communal support.

He acknowledged the role of students, parents, and teachers in his success and emphasized the shared responsibility of improving lives through education. He described his nomination as a blessing for the entire community.

Orina follows in the footsteps of Peter Tabichi, a Kenyan teacher who won the Global Teacher Prize in 2019. Tabichi, from Keriko Mixed Day Secondary School in Nakuru County, was celebrated for his dedication to improving students’ lives.

Despite limited resources, he donated 80% of his salary to support underprivileged learners, fostered science projects that gained international acclaim, and enhanced academic performance at his school.
