Kenyan Teachers Urge Govt to Expedite Visa Process for US Jobs
Kenyan teachers aiming for better-paying jobs in fast-paced countries like the United States have called on the government to expedite the visa application process to ease their travel arrangements.
This appeal comes as the US Embassy continues to struggle with backlogs for Kenyans seeking travel permits.
According to the teachers, hundreds routinely visit the US Embassy, but the visa application process is not only prolonged but also mired in bureaucratic hurdles.
This situation has led some teachers to miss out on job opportunities. The teachers’ concerns follow recent announcements from the US government about expanding staff capacity at the embassy in Nairobi to speed up visa processing.
Last month, the White House issued a statement highlighting agreements between the US and Kenya to enhance consular services and address the visa application backlog.
Speaking to the teachers, Ambassador Isaiya Kabira, Secretary of Investments and Entrepreneurship, emphasized that the recruitment of Kenyan teachers by the US marks a significant milestone, elevating the status of Kenyan educators on a global scale.
Ambassador Kabira stated, “Today marks a major milestone in the journey of our nation’s education sector. We stand on the precipice of a new dawn where the professional destinies of our teachers are redefined and elevated to global heights. We view you as global citizens, not just as individuals born in Kenya.”
Call to Action
Kabira urged the teachers to act as good ambassadors in the US in order to open up opportunities for future recruitment of Kenyan educators.
He also called on the Kenyan government to expedite the visa process, ensuring teachers can arrive in the US on time for the new semester.

He acknowledged the delays caused by issues with some applicants presenting illegitimate documents, which prompted additional scrutiny from the US side.
However, he reassured that, despite the delays, legitimate applicants would eventually make their way to the United States.
Conclusion
As the national government works on various initiatives, the plea from Kenyan teachers underscores the need for efficient visa processing to enable them to seize international opportunities.
The collaboration between Kenya and the US in enhancing consular services is a positive step toward addressing these challenges and supporting the professional growth of Kenyan educators on a global stage.
