Kenyatta University Students Protest Over Week-Long Power Outage.

On Monday, Kenyatta University students took to the streets, blocking a section of the Thika Superhighway to protest a week-long power outage in their hostels.

The demonstration disrupted traffic, causing a significant gridlock on both sides of the busy highway. The affected area, known as KM, has reportedly experienced intermittent electricity issues for over two weeks, prompting frustrations among students and local residents.

The students issued ultimatums to relevant authorities, demanding immediate power restoration. Their dissatisfaction stemmed from what they perceived as delayed responses from the authorities.

Residents and students alike expressed their grievances about the prolonged blackout, with many forced to seek alternative accommodation due to the outage.

One protester stated that students are ready to sustain demonstrations until their grievances are addressed. Another student mentioned how the power outage has disrupted their studies and day-to-day activities.

Authorities Respond Amid Chaos

Authorities worked urgently to restore normalcy and manage the protest. Commuters were left stranded, with some seeking alternative routes to avoid the blocked highway.

Officials emphasized their commitment to resolving the issue, though details about the timeline for power restoration remain unclear.

The students warned that they would persist with their protests if their demands were not met promptly. They stressed the importance of reliable electricity for their academic and residential well-being.

A student representative said the blackout has created unbearable living conditions, calling on the administration to prioritize their welfare. As the standoff continues, both students and residents await tangible solutions to the ongoing power crisis.
