KESSHA Elects Willie Kuria as New Chairperson
Celebrations swept through Sheikh Zayed Hall in Mombasa as Willie Kuria was elected National Chairperson of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) during its 47th Annual Conference and Exhibition.
The election, overseen by key education officials William Sugut (Director of Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education), Reuben Nthamburi, and Antonina Lentoijoni from the Teachers Service Commission, marked a significant change in KESSHA’s leadership.
New Leadership Team
- National Vice Chairperson: Elias Cheruyoy replaces Bonface Karisa.
- National Treasurer: Joyce Omondi succeeds Amos Cherono.
- Assistant National Treasurer: Julius Mutwii takes over from Lucy Lukunga.
- National Secretary: Abdi Noor is appointed.
- National Organising Secretary: Florence Ngarari succeeds Andrew Buop.
- Assistant Organising Secretary: Albert Masiolo replaces Godfrey Owori.
Kuria, who is also the Principal of Murang’a High, had been acting as National Chairperson following the retirement of his predecessor, Kahi Indimuli, who served for nearly a decade.
Acceptance Speech Highlights
In his acceptance speech, Kuria emphasized his commitment to advocating for better school funding and the promotion of school heads. He acknowledged the challenges of promotions within KESSHA, expressing that members feel they have been delayed in advancing to higher levels.
On the topic of school funding, Kuria conveyed the association’s intention to engage with the Education Ministry to explore ways to enhance funding and increase allocations to schools.

He stated that the association would propose methods to potentially secure increased funding for educational institutions.
Kuria’s vision aims at ensuring proper funding and career advancement for school heads, thereby addressing critical issues within the education sector.
