Kiambu County Registers High Turnout for KCSE Exam Retakes.
The Kiambu County Education Office has so far received approximately 150 applications from candidates intending to re-sit the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams scheduled for July 2025.
The exams, organized by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), are intended for individuals who missed the national exams or wish to improve their grades.
Registration Process and Deadlines
Consolata Wanjiru, the Kiambu Sub-County Director of Education, encouraged the public to take advantage of this opportunity. She noted that the final KCSE exams under the 8-4-4 curriculum will be administered in 2027, urging eligible candidates to register promptly.
According to her, the registration portal for the July exams opened on January 27, 2025, and will close on February 21, 2025, with no provisions for late registration.
Wanjiru emphasized that candidates wishing to register, whether for full or partial exam repeats, should visit the Kiambu County Education Office before the deadline. She stated that registration is open to candidates regardless of their age or the year they previously sat for the KCSE exams.
Registration Fees and Exam Venue
The director outlined that candidates need to pay a registration fee of Sh7,200 through the E-Citizen platform, as detailed in the KNEC registration guidelines.
The funds will be used to secure and prepare the examination rooms at Kiambu Township Primary School, where all KCSE candidates in the county will sit for their exams.
“We started to receive names for registration portal for the July series on Monday, January 27, we so far have about 150 names and as provided by the government we will close on Friday, February 21, 2025, and there will be no provision for late registration of candidates once the portal is closed,” said Wanjiru .
Wanjiru noted that individuals dissatisfied with their KCSE performance or those who registered but failed to sit for the exams would have a three-year window to improve their grades before the national exam is phased out.
She added that the government is committed to ensuring timely processing of results, allowing successful candidates to join universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions in September 2025 alongside those who sat for the end-of-year exams.
Certification and Results
In accordance with KCSE regulations, Wanjiru clarified that candidates re-sitting seven or more subjects will receive a KCSE examination certificate. Those re-sitting fewer than seven subjects will instead be issued a result slip for the specific subjects completed.

“KCSE examination certificates will be issued to candidates who repeat seven subjects or more, while those who repeated less than seven subjects will be issued with a result slip for the subjects, as per the existing regulations for the KCSE examination,”.
This announcement comes as a relief to over 840 candidates whose KCSE 2024 results were nullified due to confirmed involvement in examination malpractices. The provision for retaking the exams offers them a chance to redeem themselves and pursue their academic or career aspirations.
