KICD and TSC Introduce New Facilitators Training Manual for CBC Teachers.
The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), in partnership with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), has launched a comprehensive Facilitators Training Manual designed to enhance the capabilities of teachers.
KICD explained that the initiative aims to facilitate the smooth implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) frameworks for Grades 7, 8, and 9.
The manual also supports specialized programs for learners at the prevocational level, addressing the diverse needs of students with special requirements.
This manual is designed to help educators adopt learner-centered teaching approaches, focusing on inclusivity at both junior school and prevocational levels.

It equips teachers with the tools to apply differentiated teaching methods, such as inquiry-based learning, problem-solving, and blended learning techniques, all aimed at addressing the varied needs of students.
Approaches to Engage Learners
KICD highlighted the importance of employing experimental methods that encourage active participation. For instance, play-based learning boosts curiosity and resilience in students, while project-based learning fosters teamwork and critical thinking.
These approaches are intended to engage students more effectively and help them develop essential life skills.
In addition, KICD emphasized the importance of understanding the unique characteristics of both junior school learners and those at the prevocational level.
The curriculum at the junior school level is designed to expose students to a wide range of subjects, helping them discover their interests and potential as they transition to senior school.
The prevocational curriculum is tailored for learners with intellectual and physical disabilities, providing them with foundational work skills. This curriculum includes specialized programs to support students with severe autism, cerebral palsy, or other intellectual disabilities.
Promoting an Inclusive Education Environment
Through these efforts, KICD aims to ensure that all learners, regardless of their abilities, have access to an inclusive education environment. For students with intellectual disabilities, adaptations in teaching methods and resources are made to ensure they can fully participate and engage in their learning.
