KICD Invites Publishers to Submit Senior Secondary CBC Materials for Approval.

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has issued an invitation to publishers registered or legally represented in Kenya to submit proposals for Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) senior secondary materials. This initiative aims to evaluate and approve suitable learning resources.

KICD has instructed publishers to download the 2025 edition of submission, evaluation, and approval procedures for support materials from its official website. These guidelines provide a framework for interested publishers to align their proposals with the institute’s requirements and timelines.

To streamline logistics, publishers intending to submit materials must notify the KICD Director or CEO in writing by March 7, 2025. The submission deadline for all Grade 10 learning materials and literary texts for Grades 10 to 12 is 11 a.m. on April 2, 2025.

The materials required include textbooks, workbooks, and other learning aids tailored for senior secondary students, covering advanced concepts and preparing learners for further education or careers.

Progress in CBC Implementation

KICD recently released a comprehensive list of approved textbooks for Pre-Primary to Grade 9 earlier this month. This marks significant progress in the phased rollout of the CBC, which began with the release of Grade 5 books in 2020, followed by Grade 6 in 2021, Grade 7 in 2023, and Grade 8 in 2024.

Last year, the government, under President William Ruto, reviewed the CBC framework, reducing the number of subjects at various levels.

Lower primary learning areas were scaled down from nine to seven, upper primary subjects reduced from ten to eight, and Junior Secondary School (JSS) subjects were trimmed from 14 to nine.

This latest call for submissions reflects the ongoing commitment to refining and improving the CBC curriculum for senior secondary learners.
