Kikuyu MP Allocates Sh40 Million in Bursaries to Support Education.

Kikuyu Constituency MP Kimani Ichung’wah has allocated Sh40 million in bursaries to assist needy students, aiming to enhance education access in Kiambu County.

The initiative, funded through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), prioritizes secondary school students, who will receive Sh25 million, while Sh15 million is set aside for those in universities, technical institutes, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions.

This year’s allocation marks a Sh5 million increase compared to the previous year, underscoring the government’s heightened dedication to education in the region. Additionally, students undertaking short courses like fashion design, plumbing, and catering are also included among the beneficiaries, reflecting a commitment to fostering diverse career paths.

Children with disabilities have been prioritized to ensure equitable access to education alongside their peers. The initiative responds to the evident demand for bursaries, as seen in high application numbers across various wards, with Kikuyu Ward recording 2,500 applicants, Sigona 2,200, Karai 1,800, Nachu 1,348, and Kinoo 734.

Simon Ngugi, Chairman of the NG-CDF in Kikuyu, explained that applicants must be registered voters within the constituency, with guardians required to register and verify their voter status before applying.

He outlined that submissions must include original birth certificates, verified fee structures, parent or guardian ID copies, recent report cards, and guardianship proof where necessary. These documents ensure that funds are directed toward the most deserving students.

“To apply for the bursaries, guardians must first register and verify their voter status, as eligibility is limited to registered voters within the constituency,” said Simon Ngugi, Chairman of the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) in Kikuyu Constituency.

One beneficiary, Grace Wambui from Dagoretti, shared her appreciation for the program. She highlighted that the bursary enabled her son, a Form Four student at Muhurumieko Secondary School, to continue his education. Wambui expressed gratitude for the transformative impact of the fund.

By addressing diverse educational needs and offering inclusive support, the bursary program reaffirms the constituency’s commitment to empowering students and enhancing their futures.
