KNEC Calls on Teachers to Apply for Item Writing Training by 11th April.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) is inviting qualified teachers and teacher educators to submit applications for a specialized training program in test item development.

This initiative aims to enhance the capacity of educators in designing quality assessment tools aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) frameworks.

Successful applicants will be equipped with essential skills to support effective learner evaluation and may be considered for future engagement by KNEC as contracted professionals. The deadline for applications is 11th April 2025.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for consideration:

  1. Demonstrate unquestionable integrity and moral standing.
  2. Possess professional expertise or subject specialization in the intended training area.
  3. Be actively teaching the subject/learning area in one of the following categories:
    • Primary School: Grades 4, 5, and 6
    • Junior School: Grades 7 and 8
    • Senior School: Secondary level teachers expected to handle Grade 10 in 2026
    • Teacher Training Colleges: DTE-PP&P and DSTE
    • Stage-Based Pathway: Foundation, Intermediate, or Prevocational Levels
  4. Hold relevant academic and professional qualifications.
  5. Be well-versed in the curriculum designs of their teaching areas.
  6. Have a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  7. Be registered with the Teachers Service Commission.
  8. Receive a recommendation from their institutional head.

Application Guidelines

Interested applicants must submit their applications online through http://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke by 11th April 2025. Additional application details are available on the official KNEC website: www.knec.ac.ke. It should be noted that individuals who have previously undergone similar training facilitated by KNEC are not eligible to apply.
