KNEC Clarifies Grade 9 KJSEA Exam Dates, Denounces Fake Circular.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has provided clarification regarding the official dates for the Kenya Junior Education Assessment (KJSEA) exams.
A post circulating on social media had alleged that the KJSEA exams would commence on October 27, 2025, and conclude in November 2025. However, KNEC has since dismissed the post, labeling it as false information.
The misleading post further claimed that KNEC had already conducted a pilot program for the KJSEA exams using current Grade 8 learners in 235 schools. It stated that this piloting took place between July 15 and July 19, 2024. Additionally, the post included a fabricated schedule of exam papers.
Through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, KNEC advised Kenyans to disregard the post, emphasizing that the information was not accurate.
The examination council reiterated that it had not released any official communication regarding the exam dates and warned the public to rely solely on announcements from its verified platforms or the Ministry of Education.
Although KNEC has yet to announce the official KJSEA exam dates, it has made sample assessment papers available for Grade 9 students. These materials serve as practice tools for students preparing for their upcoming assessments in various subjects throughout their junior secondary education.
Grade 9 learners and teachers can access these sample papers through the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal, which is open to all schools.
The sample papers include subjects such as English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, Pre-technical Studies, Integrated Science, and other areas covered under the junior secondary curriculum.

KNEC continues to explore various ways to assess the interests and capabilities of Grade 9 students as they transition through junior secondary education.
In December 2024, KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere stated that, in addition to the achievement assessments already administered at Grade 9, students would also be required to complete questionnaires. These questionnaires aim to help shape their future academic and career paths.
