KNEC Introduces New Teacher Training on CBC.

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has invited eligible teachers to apply for specialized training in creating high-quality test items to support the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

In a notice dated April 2, KNEC emphasized the importance of this training for educators at the primary, junior, and senior school levels, along with those involved in teacher training programs. The council stated that trained teachers and teacher educators could be periodically engaged as contracted professionals when required.

Applicants must demonstrate impeccable integrity and professionalism while specializing in the subject they intend to be trained in. The opportunity is available for teachers instructing in primary school grades 4, 5, and 6, as well as junior school grades 7 and 8. Those currently teaching secondary school students and expected to handle grade 10 in 2026 are also eligible.

Additionally, educators in teacher training colleges offering the Diploma in Teacher Education—Pre-Primary and Primary (DTE-PP&P) and the Diploma in Secondary Teacher Training (DSTE) can apply. Teachers involved in Stage-Based Pathways, including Foundation, Intermediate, and Prevocational Levels, are also qualified.

Applicants must possess relevant academic and professional credentials, have thorough knowledge of the curriculum designs in their specialized subjects, and hold a minimum of three years of teaching experience. Registration with the Teachers Service Commission is mandatory, along with a recommendation from the head of their institution.

Only successful applicants will receive notifications via phone or email. KNEC specified that teachers who have previously undergone training in item writing should not apply. The training sessions will be conducted online.
