KNEC Invites Applications for Teacher Assessment Examiners.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the opening of applications for college tutors interested in marking teacher education assessments. The council confirmed that the training for examiners would take place within the month.
Interested applicants must pay a training fee of Ksh10,500, which is applicable only to shortlisted candidates. KNEC clarified that payment instructions would be sent via SMS and the official portal. The training will be a combination of online and residential sessions, with further details on access to materials, training dates, and venue communicated to successful applicants in due course.
“Access to the online training material, dates, and the venue for the residential training will be communicated to the shortlisted trainees at a later date,” KNEC said.
Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Holding a training certificate does not automatically secure employment as an examiner. KNEC stated that recruitment would be based on personnel needs for specific papers. However, tutors already listed in KNEC’s database as examiners and holding qualifications in Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), or Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) are exempt from applying.
Subjects Covered in Assessor Training
Tutors will undergo training in various disciplines within the DSTE and DTE programmes. Among the language subjects covered are English, Literature in English, Arabic, French, and German. Sciences such as Chemistry, Physics, and Biology are also included. Additionally, Geography and Life Skills Education are part of the assessment training.
Training will further extend to creative and technical fields, incorporating Fine Art, Visual Arts, Music and Dance, Performing Arts, and Theatre and Film. Specializations in Wood Technology, Electrical Technology, Pre-Technical Studies, and Textile Design Technology are also covered. The programme includes Mechatronics and Media Technology under technical disciplines.

Other areas of focus encompass Child Development, Psychology, Social Studies, Indigenous Languages, Art and Craft, Agriculture, and Science and Technology.
With this initiative, KNEC aims to enhance the assessment process by ensuring well-trained tutors evaluate teacher education programmes effectively.
