KNEC Releases 2023 TVET Examination Certificates.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has officially announced the release of the Business and Technical Courses 2023 examination certificates for Technical, Vocational, and Educational Training (TVET) institutions. The announcement, made on Friday, March 28, urges heads of institutions or their designated assistants to collect the certificates within a three-month period while adhering to three strict guidelines.
KNEC specified that the March, July, and November 2023 business and technical certificates are now available for collection exclusively by heads of institutions or their assigned representatives.
The examination body emphasized that any queries regarding the certificates must be submitted in writing through the heads of institutions. Additionally, institutions have the option of submitting queries online by logging into the KNEC portal and following the provided instructions.
“The 2023 March, July, and November 2023 business and technical certificates are ready for collection by heads of institutions or their designated assistants,” KNEC stated.
Further, KNEC established a strict 60-day deadline for submitting any concerns, warning that non-compliance would result in a penalty fee of Ksh500. The council reiterated that all queries must be received within sixty days from the certificate release date, setting the final submission deadline as June 30, 2025.
TVET institutions offer a range of business and technical courses. The business programs include business management, accounting and finance, human resource management, supply chain and logistics management, and cooperative management. Meanwhile, technical courses encompass various engineering disciplines such as electrical and electronic, mechanical, civil, and automotive engineering, along with ICT and software development.

Challenges in Certificate Issuance
The process of releasing TVET examination certificates has historically faced significant delays and obstacles. Although KNEC typically publishes exam results within three to six months, certificate issuance can take six months to a year or even longer. Several factors contribute to these delays, including processing inefficiencies, outstanding fees, accreditation issues, and bureaucratic hurdles.
In some cases, government intervention has been required to expedite the release of certificates. A notable instance occurred in 2023 when former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu directed the immediate release of over 11,000 pending TVET certificates. Such interventions highlight the persistent challenges within the system and the ongoing efforts to improve the certification process for TVET graduates.
