KNEC Releases KPSEA 2024 Results: How to Access Results.
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has announced the release of the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) reports.
Schools have been instructed to access the learner-specific reports by logging into the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) portal.
KNEC stated on X that the reports are available at http://cba.knec.ac.ke. Schools that presented candidates for the examination were encouraged to download the results and congratulated all the 2024 KPSEA candidates for their efforts.
The KPSEA was conducted between October 28 and November 1, with 1,303,913 Grade 6 students sitting for the exams at 35,573 centers across the country.
The assessment covered various subjects, including Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, Integrated Science, Creative Arts, and Social Studies.
All candidates who participated in the examination will transition to Grade 9, which remains within their respective primary schools.
Significance of KPSEA in the Competency-Based Curriculum
The KPSEA plays a crucial role in Kenya’s Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which is gradually replacing the 8-4-4 education system.
The assessment evaluates students’ understanding and application of skills, forming part of the transitional evaluation under the CBC framework.
Although students are not ranked, the KPSEA accounts for 20% of their overall assessment. This score will be combined with another 20% from school-based assessments in Grade 7 and a 60% summative evaluation at the end of Grade 9.
Grade 9 marks the final phase of Junior School before learners transition to Senior School in 2026.
In Senior School, students will study for three years, covering Grades 10, 11, and 12. At this stage, learners will select career pathways based on their interests and competencies.
Subjects and Learning Areas in Junior School
Junior School, including Grade 9, offers nine learning areas: English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, CRE/IRE/HRE, Agriculture, Social Studies (History, Geography, Life Skills), Pre-technical Studies (Business Studies, Computer Studies), Creative Arts & Sports (Art, Craft, Physical Education, Visual Arts), and Integrated Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
These subjects aim to provide a well-rounded foundation for learners before they transition to Senior School.

In Senior School, students will focus on three core learning areas that determine their career paths: Arts and Sports Science, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Arts and Sports Science category offers two tracks: Arts, which includes Music and Dance, Theatre and Film, and Fine Arts; and Sports Science, which includes Sports and Recreation and Physical Education.
These pathways provide learners with opportunities to specialize based on their talents and aspirations.
