KNEC Revises Dates for Grade 9 JSS Teachers’ Pilot Study Exams
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has updated the schedule for the Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) teachers’ pilot study for Grade 9 exams. This includes the roles of invigilators and examiners.
New Pilot Study Dates
According to a memo from the Chief Executive Officer of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), directed to Sub-County Directors on June 28, 2024, the pilot tools for the Grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Prevocational Level Education (KPLEA) summative assessments will now be administered between July 15-19, 2024.
This revision supersedes the initial schedule of July 1-5, 2024.
The memo further indicated that the scoring of the KJSEA pilot tools will be conducted from August 2-13, 2024. The TSC emphasized the importance of noting the revised dates for necessary actions.
The current Grade 9 students are being prepared for exams that will take place next year. Following their exams, they will advance to Grade 10 in Senior Schools, starting in 2026, under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Pathways for Specialization
Once in Senior Schools, students will have the opportunity to choose from three specialization pathways:
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
