KNEC Rolls Out New Features for KCSE and KPSEA Exam Papers, Bans Mobile Phones for Supervisors .
As the national exams approach, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) released updates on Friday regarding the upcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and the Kenya Primary School Assessment (KPSEA).
During a KNEC forum, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Julius Ogamba announced that this year’s examination papers would have new features aimed at reducing exam malpractice.
New Exam Features
The CS disclosed that the exams would have candidate details pre-printed on them as a measure to combat cheating. The papers will bear the students’ names, index numbers, and school names to enhance security.
Julius Ogamba shared that the KCSE exam papers would be personalized, with the candidates’ names pre-printed directly on the question papers.
Details on Exam Papers
KNEC elaborated that the first page of each KCSE exam paper would display pre-printed details of the candidates at each exam centre. The page will be divided into two sections: the upper and lower parts.

The upper section will contain the students’ personal information, including their names, index numbers, centre codes, and centre names. Additionally, there will be a space for candidates to sign, confirming their identity.
KNEC further noted that KPSEA exams would be distributed in green packages, while the KCSE exams would come in blue packages for easier identification.
Exam Collection Updates
Addressing delegates, the CS provided solutions to challenges faced in the previous year’s examination process.
He explained that 41 additional containers had been introduced to alleviate the issue of long distances for centre managers collecting and returning exam papers.
This expansion is expected to reduce the burden on centre managers and improve the overall efficiency of the examination process.
Preparations for Candidates
To ensure students are well-prepared for the exams, Ogamba instructed school principals to prevent any further parent visits, as schools are expected to focus solely on exam preparations.
He emphasized that there are existing circulars and guidelines prohibiting non-essential activities in schools during this period.
The CS also warned against examination malpractice, noting that anyone caught cheating would face severe consequences.
He stressed that compromising the integrity of examinations would undermine the quality of certificates issued by the government.
Exam Statistics
This year, the KCSE exams will be administered to 965,501 candidates across 10,565 centres, while the KPSEA exams will cater to 1,303,913 candidates in 35,573 centres. In total, 2,279,414 candidates are set to sit for these national exams across the country.
