KNEC to Begin 2025 KPSEA and KILEA Registration on Monday.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced that registration for the 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) will commence on Monday, January 27, 2025. The registration period will run until February 28, 2025.
KPSEA Registration Details
KNEC CEO David Njegere stated that all learners currently in Grade 6 must be registered anew through the KPSEA Registration portal, which will be accessible throughout the registration window. According to Njegere, only eligible learners in recognized institutions will be allowed to participate in the assessment.
Key Requirements for Registration:

For learners with special needs and disabilities, additional data is required:

Low Vision (LP) | Candidates needing large-print papers |
Hearing Impairment (HI) | Learners with hearing disabilities |
Njegere emphasized that any inaccuracies in learners’ bio-data must be corrected during registration to ensure precise submissions.
Ghost Candidates and Assessment Number Requirement
Njegere warned institutions against registering ghost candidates, terming it as assessment malpractice. Schools found guilty may face sanctions, including losing their status as KNEC assessment centers.
He clarified that KPSEA candidates without an assigned Assessment Number in the Grade 6 portal must first be registered in the portal.
The Assessment Number is mandatory for all KPSEA registrations. Once assigned, heads of institutions will be enabled to complete the registration process for these candidates.
Submission of School-Based Assessment Scores
Heads of institutions must ensure that School-Based Assessment (SBA) scores for Grades 4 and 5 are uploaded to the school portals.
This step is crucial for candidates who will be sitting for the KPSEA assessment. Njegere advised school heads to confirm the accuracy of these scores before proceeding with the registration.
KILEA Registration Process
For learners following the stage-based pathway and eligible for the KILEA assessment, teachers will play a central role in confirming their readiness. Upon validation, these learners will be registered through the KILEA Registration portal.
Njegere reiterated that the registration process must be handled meticulously to avoid errors that may compromise the assessment process. Institutions are expected to adhere strictly to the guidelines provided by KNEC to ensure a seamless exercise.
