KNEC to Offer Special KCSE Exams for Women’s U-17 Team Players
Eight students who are members of Kenya’s Under-17 Women’s national football team will take a special Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam. This arrangement is to ensure their smooth participation in the upcoming FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup.
The FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup is set to take place in the Dominican Republic in November. Unfortunately, this coincides with the KCSE exams, which are scheduled to begin on November 4 and conclude on November 22.
Specifically, Kenya’s Group C matches are slated between October 18 and 24, with potential quarterfinal matches between October 26 and 28.
Should the team advance, the final stages of the tournament will occur from October 29 to November 3, potentially causing the players to miss their KCSE exams.
KNEC’s Arrangement
In response to this clash, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has committed to arranging an alternative exam schedule for the affected students.

KNEC plans to collaborate with the center managers of the six secondary schools attended by these students. This special exam schedule will allow the players to complete their exams before the World Cup finals on November 3.
“The council will liaise with centre managers of the affected six secondary schools and make appropriate arrangements within the examination period,” Knec said in its letter to PS for Youth Affairs.
The decision followed a request in the National Assembly by Nominated MP Irene Mayaka. She sought clarification on the steps being taken to ensure the students could fully participate in the World Cup without the stress of missing exams.
Mayaka expressed concern that the clash between the World Cup fixtures and the KCSE exams posed a significant challenge for the players. She emphasized the importance of supporting these young athletes in balancing their academic and athletic ambitions.
In a letter dated August 12, signed by CEO David Njengere, KNEC appealed to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports to facilitate the students’ prompt return to their respective schools immediately after their participation in the World Cup.
