KNUT Bomet Branch Calls for Removal of Education CECM Over Teachers Mistreatment
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Bomet Branch, has demanded the dismissal of the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and the Chief Officer (CO).
The Branch Executive Secretary, Desmond Langat, has criticized the officials for their arrogance, mistreatment of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers, and obstruction of negotiations between the union and educators.
Langat expressed his concerns after a recent meeting with ECDE teachers from the county. He urged the county assembly to initiate the removal process for these officials to restore the sector’s integrity.
He claimed that the Education CECM has been particularly disrespectful towards teachers and highlighted recent instances where three other CECMs were removed by the Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

“The Education CECM is so arrogant and talks recklessly to teachers. Recently, 3 CECMs were kicked out by the MCAs and we ask the MCAs to include Education CECM and his CO in the list of those who need to go home,” he said.
Langat suggested that the Education CECM and the CO should be included in this list.
Issues with Teacher Dismissals
Langat criticized the dismissal of 127 teachers, whose contracts had expired, arguing that these teachers should have been confirmed in their positions given their years of service.
He stressed that ECDE teachers are members of KNUT and dismissed as self-serving any other union claiming to represent these teachers.
The union emphasized the need for renewed discussions between the county government and ECDE teachers, pointing out several unresolved issues, including the case of the 127 dismissed teachers.

Langat reaffirmed the union’s commitment to fostering positive relations between the parties involved.
The union also refuted claims that all ECDE teachers in the county have received their salaries and has called on Governor Hillary Barchok for urgent intervention.
