KNUT Raises Alarm Over Rising School Attacks by Parents.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has expressed deep concern about the increasing cases of unrest in schools, with some parents storming school premises and blocking access to headteachers.
The KNUT Bondo Branch insists that immediate action is necessary to address the issue, which has disrupted the administration of educational institutions in the region.
Led by Bondo branch Executive Secretary George Ajwang’ condemned the recent incidents of school closures orchestrated by parents targeting headteachers.
A representative from the branch emphasized that this trend is unacceptable and urged parents to follow proper channels when addressing grievances. According to the official, conflicts should not be resolved through hostility but rather through established procedural frameworks.
The representative highlighted that schools operate as a collective unit, and targeting headteachers indirectly affects other staff members, thereby disrupting the entire institution. The official called for a stop to such actions, stressing that unity and mutual respect are key to maintaining a prosperous education system.
Proper Channels for Conflict Resolution
The union reiterated the need for parents and school board members to utilize existing conflict resolution mechanisms.
They explained that issues should first be raised with the Curriculum Support Officer (CSO) in charge of the zone. If the matter remains unresolved, it can be escalated to the sub-county director of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or the Ministry of Education.
The representative noted that these channels provide an opportunity for dialogue and peaceful resolution. They urged parents and stakeholders to avoid actions that disrupt school activities and jeopardize the welfare of learners.
In a strong message to parents, the union discouraged the act of storming schools and creating chaos as a form of protest. The KNUT official remarked that such actions set a poor example for learners, potentially influencing them to replicate similar behaviors in the future.

The representative posed a rhetorical question to illustrate the potential consequences of such protests, asking how a parent would react if their child mirrored this disruptive behavior at home. They underscored the importance of responsible conduct and constructive dialogue in addressing grievances.
The union also emphasized the need for parents to act as role models, demonstrating respect for institutions and fostering a conducive learning environment.
Conclusion
The KNUT Bondo branch has made it clear that the recent trend of school disruptions cannot be tolerated. They have called for all stakeholders to embrace peaceful conflict resolution methods to ensure stability in educational institutions.
