KNUT Raises Concerns Over School Capitation Fund Delays.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed disbursement of capitation funds to both primary and secondary schools. The union claims that this delay is negatively impacting learning in public schools.
Boniface Tenai, the Executive Secretary for the Tinderet/Nandi East Branch, highlighted that the delay in releasing the funds is having severe effects on students in public schools.
Tenai questioned why the government continues to withhold the necessary funds, stating that the situation is disrupting school operations.
According to Tenai, the delay has led to many school heads sending students home to collect fees. He argued that such disruptions could be avoided if the funds were released on time.
Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Funding
Tenai believes that for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) to be successful, the government must increase the allocation of funds to schools and ensure timely disbursements.
He emphasized that the CBC is one of the best reforms the country has seen, but its success depends on sufficient and timely financial support.
