KNUT Secretary General Accuses TSC Pension Department of Corruption.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General, Collins Oyuu, has raised allegations of corruption within the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) pension department.
Speaking at the union’s annual general meeting held at Gusii Stadium in Kisii County, Oyuu claimed that retired teachers were being forced to pay bribes to access their pension benefits.
He demanded that disciplinary action be taken against officers engaging in such corrupt practices.
Oyuu emphasized that the demand for “something small” to process pensions must be eliminated, calling for an immediate end to the extortion.
“This idea of something small must stop. We want the government to channel the benefits of teachers who have retired without any conditions.”

He added that no regulations require retired teachers to pay any money to receive what they are rightfully owed.
He urged the government to ensure teachers’ pension benefits are processed without conditions, labeling those demanding bribes as fraudsters who have no place in the system.
“Some of these people who give conditions are quarks, we don’t know them. It’s not written anywhere that you must dip your your hand into your pocket to gain what is rightfully yours,” said Oyuu.
In addition to addressing corruption, Oyuu called for the filling of 46,000 vacant teaching positions.

He urged the government to resolve any budgetary constraints to facilitate the hiring process, highlighting the urgent need for these vacancies to be filled.
The Secretary General further pushed for the automation of pension processing and reiterated that financial issues should not be a barrier to addressing the staffing shortages in schools.
