KNUT Warns Political Tensions Could Disrupt National Examinations.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has expressed concerns over the rising political temperatures in the country, urging political leaders to lower tensions to allow students a conducive environment to sit for their upcoming national examinations.

With the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams approaching, KNUT officials are calling for calm and focus on the education sector during this critical period.

Speaking during KNUT’s annual general meeting in Busia, the union’s Second Vice National Chairperson, Agri Namisi, addressed the issue, urging political figures to reduce the current political intensity.

Namisi emphasized that students, particularly those preparing for their exams, need a peaceful environment to focus on their studies without distractions caused by political conflicts.

He noted that ongoing political engagements could lead to unrest, which may negatively affect candidates during their examination period.

Appeal to Teachers

In his speech, Namisi also called on teachers to remain neutral and avoid participating in ongoing political activities.

He pointed out that the role of teachers during the examination season should be to provide support and guidance to students rather than becoming entangled in political affairs.

Namisi stressed the importance of maintaining professionalism in the education sector to ensure students’ success.

Namisi highlighted that while the political scenario continues to evolve, teachers and citizens must prioritize peace for the benefit of the children.

He acknowledged that while politicians have the right to address national issues, ensuring a peaceful environment during the exam period is critical for the well-being of the candidates.
