Kolanya Boys, Girls Dethrone Butula Boys in Busia 2024 KCSE Results.
Kolanya Girls National School and Kolanya Boys High School from Teso North have emerged as the top performers in Busia County in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). Both schools registered over 87 percent direct university entry, marking a significant achievement for the region.
Butula Boys National School which has been doing very well, recorded a slight decline in mean grade compared to previous years. However, the increase in the number of candidates suggests a broader intake, potentially impacting the overall performance.
Kolanya Girls National School Results
Kolanya Girls National School Principal, Tabitha Okama, expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, students, and stakeholders for their support in achieving stellar results.
She reported that the school had 266 candidates, with 228 achieving direct university entry. The school’s mean score was 8.04, equivalent to a B-. The top student attained an A with 82 points, while other grades included:

Okama emphasized the importance of integrity as the school’s core value, affirming their commitment to hard work and excellence.
Kolanya Boys High School Results
Kolanya Boys High School also demonstrated exceptional performance. Principal Jacktone Indimuli highlighted the school’s achievement as the top extra-county boys’ school in the county.
With a mean score of 8.01 (B-), the school reached a milestone it had been pursuing since 2015. Of the 347 candidates, 324 achieved direct university entry, representing 93.37 percent. The grade distribution included:

Students and staff from both schools took to the streets of Malaba Town to celebrate their impressive results.
Jemimah Shikuku, the top student at Kolanya Girls, attributed the success to discipline, hard work, and determination from both students and teachers.
She shared her aspiration to join the University of Nairobi to pursue a career in medicine and surgery, a dream she has nurtured since childhood.
Indimuli pledged to maintain excellence in both academics and extracurricular activities, ensuring the school’s continued prominence.
Support from Education Officials
Teso North Sub-county Director of Education, Elizabeth Marangach, assured the schools of government support to sustain and improve their performance. She expressed pride in the schools’ achievements and set a target for 2025 to surpass the results of 2024.
Marangach noted that Teso North Sub-county had become the best in the county after ten years, following their second-place finish in 2023.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring students access quality education and training, including opportunities in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for those not joining university.
