KRA Upgrades eTIMS to Streamline Tax Services

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a major upgrade to its Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) to enhance service efficiency and simplify processes.

The tax authority, in a notice dated February 26, detailed that the update aims to optimize performance, improve flexibility, and make the system more user-friendly for taxpayers.

A key enhancement is the introduction of self-onboarding, eliminating the need for prior approval of taxpayer applications by the KRA.

This change allows taxpayers to apply for any available eTIMS solutions without requiring intervention from the revenue authority. Upon submission of an application, Kenyans will instantly receive a confirmation message via text, ensuring a seamless process.

The upgrade introduces the ability to use multiple eTIMS solutions simultaneously for invoice generation. Taxpayers relying on eTIMS Client as their primary invoicing tool can now integrate the online portal as a secondary option and vice versa.

Furthermore, users can switch devices or invoicing solutions without requiring pre-approval, increasing efficiency and flexibility.

Comprehensive Invoice Access and Management

All invoices generated from different eTIMS solutions, including eTIMS Client, System-to-System integration solutions (VSCU & OSCU), and the eCitizen portal, will now be accessible through the online taxpayer portal.

Each solution will maintain a distinct invoice sequence to ensure uniqueness, while credit notes will only be issued from the solution where the original invoice was generated. This ensures consistency and accuracy in tax invoice data.

The latest update also benefits taxpayers using the System-to-System integration approach by allowing them to connect with multiple third-party integrators.

Additionally, a secondary device from another integrator can now be added by establishing a branch under the Device Management section, which is accessible via the portal.

These improvements are expected to significantly enhance tax compliance and efficiency, providing taxpayers with a more seamless and convenient experience.
