KUCCPS Addresses Reports of Increased Cut-Offs for Education Courses.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has identified a Facebook group falsely claiming to represent its 2025 student intake. The group has been accused of spreading misinformation, specifically about changes to cut-off points for education degree programs.
In a public notice shared on Sunday, April 13, KUCCPS cautioned applicants against trusting unofficial social media sources. The placement body flagged two posts from the group, warning students not to be misled by impersonators posing as the official service.
One of the flagged posts stated that KUCCPS had increased its cut-off points for education courses, making students with a C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) ineligible for public universities. The group claimed this change would force many to consider private universities instead.
According to the false information, only students with 27 points and above could secure education degree placements in public institutions. It further alleged that C+ students would only be eligible if they chose to join private universities and urged them to make informed decisions.
KUCCPS Clarifies Official Position
The group behind the misleading claims, named KUCCPS UPDATES 2025 SEPTEMBER INTAKE, boasts 193,000 members. Its posts, often presented as application guidance, have now been discredited by KUCCPS as incorrect.
In response, KUCCPS reaffirmed its official stance announced on March 25, which confirms that students who scored a C+ in KCSE remain eligible to apply for degree courses, including those in education.
Earlier, in January, a rumour had emerged suggesting that the government planned to raise entry requirements for education degrees. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) swiftly refuted the claim.

The viral reports alleged that new rules required a minimum grade of B- in at least two teaching subjects, unlike previous years when a C+ mean grade and C+ in both teaching subjects sufficed for eligibility.
These claims surfaced well before the release of KCSE results or the opening of the KUCCPS application portal, fueling confusion among prospective applicants.
