KUCCPS Opens Portal for 2025 University & TVET Applications – How to Apply.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced the opening of the KUCCPS portal for 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) graduates who attained a mean grade of C+ and above. This allows them to apply for degree programs.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) on Friday urged 2024 KCSE candidates to submit applications for their desired courses.
Additionally, KUCCPS stated that the portal is accessible to individuals interested in enrolling in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Teacher Training College (TTC) programs.
The portal will remain open until April 21, with the government prepared to receive applications from approximately 246,391 eligible students. The available slots amount to 305,223, with 245,495 spaces in public universities and 59,728 in private institutions.
KUCCS notified the 2024 KCSE candidates that applications for degree courses could be submitted via the official KUCCPS portal. Moreover, it clarified that the application window was open for Degree, TVET, and TTC programs, targeting the 2024 KCSE candidates for degree courses and those who sat for KCSE between 2000 and 2024 for TVET and TTC courses.
“We opened the portal from January but we did it in phases. The first time when we opened, it was for the purposes of those who wanted to undertake courses in Technical Vocational Education and Training institutions, Teacher Training Colleges and Kenya Medical Training College to be able to apply,” said the Education CS Julius Ogamba.
Application Deadline and Eligibility
KUCCPS confirmed that the application portal would remain accessible for three weeks, with the deadline for submissions set for April 21, 2025. The placement service outlined that 40 public universities listed on the portal qualify for government scholarships and Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) funding.
Ogamba explained that the portal was initially opened in January in a phased manner. At first, it catered to applicants interested in Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, Teacher Training Colleges, and the Kenya Medical Training College.
“We have opened it today for university students and we are going to have it open for the next 30 days. We are now ready to deal with the issues relating to the admission of students in whatever they are taking and whichever university they are going to, both public and private,” CS Ogamba added.
It further stated that 29 private universities are included in the application process, though they only qualify for HELB loans. Additionally, 263 public colleges listed on the portal are eligible for both government scholarships and HELB funding.

Prospective applicants were directed to access the KUCCPS portal via https://students.kuccps.net/. Upon accessing the site, candidates must enter their KCSE index number, KCSE year, and a password. The placement service advised students to use either their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number or birth certificate number as their password.
The activation of the KUCCPS portal followed a legal ruling two days earlier when the Court of Appeal temporarily permitted the government to proceed with implementing the new university funding model. This development paved the way for KUCCPS to commence the application process, ensuring smooth placement procedures for 2025 applicants.
