KUCCPS Opens Portal for Diploma Teacher Training Applications.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has activated its placement portal for the September 2025 intake into Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).
The portal became accessible on March 6, allowing prospective applicants to submit their applications. KUCCPS has confirmed that the portal will remain open until March 20, providing a two-week window for interested candidates to apply.
Individuals aspiring to pursue a Diploma in Primary Teacher Education or a Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education have been invited to submit applications. However, KUCCPS has not specified the exact number of available slots for these diploma programs.
This development aligns with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) launching its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, which forecasts the recruitment of 211,870 teachers over the next five years.
The expansion of teacher training opportunities is expected to support this initiative by producing a well-trained workforce to meet the growing demand in the education sector.
University Placement and Admission Criteria
Meanwhile, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba recently announced that university applications for the September intake will also be opened in March 2025. He emphasized that the KUCCPS placement portal will enable students to apply for courses of their choice as part of the regular annual intake schedule.
Addressing concerns regarding university admission cut-off marks, Ogamba clarified that the government has not reinstated specific cut-off points for university entry. He assured that all 246,391 students who meet the qualification criteria will be admitted.
The CS reiterated that a mean grade of C+ (plus) remains the minimum requirement for university admission for the 2024 KCSE cohort.
To support these students, the Ministry estimates that Ksh25.85 billion will be required annually, totaling Ksh100 billion over a four-year period if all eligible students enroll.
Available Slots
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has initiated the application process for public Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) as part of its phased placement approach for various institutions this year.
A total of 13,823 slots are available for the September 2025 intake into Diploma in Primary and Secondary Teacher Education programmes, with the application period open until March 20, 2025.
Currently, three colleges are offering the Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education, with a total capacity of 2,735 students. Meanwhile, the remaining 33 institutions provide the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, offering 11,088 available slots.
