The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) plays a critical role in coordinating the placement process of Government-sponsored students to universities and colleges in Kenya.
As part of its commitment to efficiency and transparency, KUCCPS has announced the opening of the school online application portal for KCSE candidates.
This blog post serves as a comprehensive KUCCPS guide for schools and principals on the application process, revised placement criteria, and other relevant information.
1. Revised Placement Criteria
KUCCPS, in collaboration with stakeholders, has recently revised the criteria for placing candidates in degree and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses.
To ensure informed decision-making, schools and centers can access the revised criteria, available degree and TVET courses per institution, similar programs, and previous cut-off points (where applicable) through the Placement Service website or the manuals under the ‘Resources’ tab on the portal.
For any further queries or clarifications, schools can reach out to KUCCPS via email or phone.
2. Application Process
The application process for placement is a crucial step that schools and centers need to undertake on behalf of their students. Principals are responsible for submitting the application, and the process can be completed through the following steps:
a) Creating a New Account: All schools/centers are required to create a new account by visiting the Principal’s Portal on the KUCCPS website. Simply click on the ‘New Account’ link and fill in the necessary verification details to create the account.
b) Logging In and Accessing Applications: Once the account is created, log in with the registered credentials and move to the ‘Applications’ tab. Click on the ‘Application Template‘ button to download the Excel workbook.
c) Filling and Saving the Template: The Excel workbook contains 18 choices for each student. These choices include six-degree options, four diploma options, four craft certificate options, and four artisan certificate options.
The student can apply for any combination of these options, but they must be entered in the appropriate fields. The student should only apply for programs they genuinely wish to pursue. Once the file has been completely filled in, it should be saved as an Excel Workbook (.xlsx).
d) Uploading the Filled Template: On the portal, under application, click on ‘Upload Form’ and submit the completed Excel workbook.
e) Payment and Finalizing: After uploading the form, the system will generate a report. Schools must ensure that the details are correct, and if any corrections are needed, the Excel workbook can be edited and re-uploaded.
Once satisfied, schools can proceed with the payment through Mpesa Paybill using the provided details. It is essential to ensure accuracy as changes after submission will not be possible.
3. Paying for the Applicants
All payments for the applicants are to be made via Mpesa Paybill using the following details:
- Business Number: 820201
- Account: 8-digit Center Code
- Amount: (500*Number of Applicants)
4. Finalizing the Application
After making the payment, enter the Mpesa transaction code in the provided field and ‘Apply’ the payment. This action will assign the funds to the students with their respective choices.
Click ‘Save Application’ to commit the choices. Once saved, schools cannot change the allocation for student funds, so it is vital to review everything before finalizing the application.
Conclusion
The placement process for 2018 KCSE candidates has been streamlined to ensure efficiency and fairness. Schools and principals play a critical role in guiding their students through the application process, making choices that align with their aspirations and academic pursuits.
By following the steps outlined in this guide, schools can make the process smoother, resulting in better outcomes for the students. KUCCPS remains committed to facilitating the placement of students to universities and colleges, helping them achieve their academic dreams and contribute to the nation’s growth and development.
