KUCCPS Requirements for Placement, Eligibility Criteria and How to Apply.
The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has outlined the eligibility criteria and minimum academic qualifications required for students applying to tertiary institutions.
Eligibility for University Placement
KUCCPS specifies that only Kenyan citizens qualify for placement in both public and private universities. Currently, foreign nationals are not eligible for university placements within Kenya.
However, non-Kenyans are allowed to apply for specific programs, including the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education, Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education, and courses offered by the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
Additionally, all applicants must have completed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, which is administered annually by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
Minimum Academic Requirements
KUCCPS requires students to meet specific academic thresholds for placement into degree, diploma, certificate, and artisan programs.
For degree programs, applicants must achieve at least a C+ (plus) in KCSE, while those pursuing diploma courses need a minimum grade of C- (minus). Certificate courses require a minimum of D+ (plus).
Only students who apply through KUCCPS are considered for placement in their selected programs. Admission into any course is contingent on meeting the minimum qualifications published on the KUCCPS Student Portal.
Placement is based on merit, with an Affirmative Action Criteria applied to enhance access for marginalized groups, individuals with disabilities, and gender representation. However, securing a preferred course remains competitive, as selection depends on the qualifications of applicants and available slots in each program.

Application Process
KUCCPS announces placement applications through print and electronic media, guiding students on the process.
To apply, candidates must log in to the KUCCPS Student Portal at students.kuccps.net. They are required to enter their KCSE index number, examination year, and password. Students are advised to use their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) index number as the password.
This update comes just days after KUCCPS confirmed that its portal would open for university course applications within the week.
