KUPPET Accuses KNEC of Profiling Teachers From Schools in Western Region.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Kisumu branch has strongly criticized the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) for allegedly profiling exam markers from several schools in the Western region.
Branch Executive Secretary Zablon Awange expressed concern that teachers from specific schools had been unfairly targeted without clear justification or proper investigations.
He noted that the affected schools included Ulanda Girls, St. Mary’s School Yala, Ringa Boys, Ambira High, St. Peters Mumias, Butere Girls, and Nyaminina Mixed.
Other institutions reportedly profiled were Sironga Girls, Sameta Boys, Nyamagwa School, Nyalenda Mixed, Sino School, St. Monica-Kitale, Gendia, Teremi Boys, Nyambaria Boys, Friends School Poroko, Riokindo High, Kebabe, and Ololunga Boys.

Awange earlier criticized KNEC center managers for allegedly misusing resources. He claimed that motorcycles and Tuktuks were being used to transport examination papers in some areas, implying that funds allocated for fuel were being diverted for personal gain.
Unfair Penalties for Teachers
KUPPET also highlighted complaints from teachers who felt penalized for mistakes attributed to center managers.
The union expressed concerns about KNEC’s approach to addressing exam malpractice, stating that innocent teachers were being unfairly victimized.

Awange emphasized that while KUPPET condemns exam irregularities, the practice of accusing innocent educators without evidence was deeply regrettable.
“We have received several complaints regarding victimization of teachers and KUPPET is concerned that KNEC is using unfair tactics to solve exam malpractice,” he said. “We abhor exam irregularities but accusing innocent teachers is unfortunate.”
