KUPPET Pushes for Consolidation of Education Funds for Free Education.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has proposed consolidating all educational funds, including the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and various bursary funds, into a single pool.
KUPPET argue that this approach would help streamline funding, enable better resource allocation, and ultimately provide free education from primary through university levels.
They added that such measures could also support salary increments for teachers by over 40%, attributing the current inefficiencies to corruption.
KUPPET underscored the lack of adequate resources and facilities in primary schools to support effective JSS education.
They argued that while teachers could conduct classes under various conditions, the issue lies in the absence of essential science equipment and other resources required for specialized JSS subjects.

Speaking in Mombasa, KUPPET representatives criticized the high costs associated with building classrooms in public schools, claiming corruption within the education sector.
They noted that classrooms in private institutions cost around KSh 600,000 to construct, while similar projects in public schools cost an estimated KSh 1.3 million.
Government’s Commitment to Classroom Construction
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos has assured that the government is committed to constructing the necessary classrooms for JSS.
He stated that 16,000 classrooms are slated for completion by December 15. This initiative aims to meet the infrastructure needs of the JSS program as the new academic calendar approaches.
