Lari Schools Closed Due to Declining Enrollment After 2024 KCSE.
Two secondary schools in Lari Constituency, Ragia Forest Secondary School and Kiambogo Secondary School, have been shut down due to a sharp decline in student enrollment during the current academic year.
According to Lari Sub-County Education Officer Benjamin Moeni, the closures followed the completion of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Moeni explained that the classrooms in both schools have since been converted into storage spaces, while science laboratories have remained unused since last year’s practical assessments.
Ragia Forest Secondary School is situated in Kinale Ward, and a few kilometers away, Kiambogo Secondary School is located in Kabi Ward. Both institutions have faced dwindling student numbers, with Ragia reporting an enrollment of just 150 students.
Moeni stated that no new students joined Ragia Forest Secondary School this year, a situation that ultimately led to its closure.
Stakeholders Seek Solutions
The closures have sparked concern among education stakeholders and local leaders in Lari Constituency.
Some are calling for a meeting to discuss merging the two schools as a potential solution to improve the quality of education in the region. Local Member of Parliament Muru Kangara has attributed the poor performance in schools to the low registration rates of pupils and students.

Reports suggest that a number of parents have opted to transfer their children to other schools, exacerbating the enrollment challenges in Lari.
Stakeholders are urging collaboration among community members and education authorities to find sustainable solutions that will enhance education standards in the area.
