Several schools have made impressive comebacks in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
Institutions such as St. Patrick’s Makunga, Seed Secondary, Eshikulu Girls, and Matunda SA Secondary have demonstrated resilience and determination. School heads attribute their successes to the collective effort of students, staff, and stakeholders.
Eshikulu Girls Secondary School
Eshikulu Girls Secondary School celebrated its first-ever A- grade since its establishment in 2014. Over 50 students attained the university minimum entry grade, marking a pivotal moment for the school. Deputy Principal Violet Ang’ang’o expressed pride in the results, noting they signified a new chapter for the institution.
St. Faustina Kerugoya Girls’ High School
St. Faustina Kerugoya Girls’ High School recorded its first grade A plain in its history. Kamau Eveline Muthomi achieved this feat with a mean grade of A plain in the 2024 KCSE exams.
Principal Joyce Githinji revealed that Eveline’s success has motivated the school, which posted an overall mean score of 6.844, improving from 6.582 in 2023. Githinji credited hard work and discipline for the school’s progress.
St. Patrick’s Makunga Secondary School
St. Patrick’s Makunga Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County celebrated over 120 students securing university slots.
Principal Moses Wabwire highlighted discipline, curriculum adherence, and collaboration with stakeholders as key factors in their success. Despite limited resources, the school has maintained its reputation for academic excellence.

Deputy Principal Rodah Sitati emphasized that a student’s background does not define their future, as exemplified by students like Joice Lukale and Francis Karenga, who overcame hardships to excel.
Matunda SA Secondary School
Matunda SA Secondary School in Likuyani Constituency had a record-breaking year, with its top student scoring an A plain (81 points).
A total of 195 candidates secured placements in public universities. Deputy Principal Mary Sifuna noted that achieving such results in a mixed-day school setting was a testament to hard work and dedication.

Loreto High Matunda
Loreto High School Matunda reclaimed its academic glory with a mean score of 7.8. Ranking second in Uasin Gishu County, 89% of its candidates secured university placements.
Chief Principal Phylis Chepkok urged students to explore opportunities in technical and vocational training for those scoring below C+.
A Kisii Family’s Mixed Emotions
A family in Kisii is mourning the loss of their daughter, Mitchelle Kemunto, who passed away from epilepsy two days after completing her KCSE exams. Kemunto achieved a B- grade and had aspired to become a doctor. Her mother, Vane Moraa, described the results as bittersweet, bringing pride but deepening their grief.
