Male Teachers Dominate TSC Deregistration Cases .
Data from March 23, 2023, to March 8, 2024, indicates that male teachers constitute the overwhelming majority of those deregistered by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for various infractions.
This alarming trend highlights a significant challenge in the education sector, necessitating immediate and decisive action to address the issue.
The majority of deregistration cases stem from general disciplinary issues, with male teachers more frequently failing to comply with the professional code of conduct.
This persistent concern reflects a growing need for stricter adherence to ethical standards within the teaching profession.
Expert Perspective on the Trend
Dr. Pelesiah Akuthe, a Media and Communication scholar at Rongo University, expressed deep concern over this trend.
She noted that most of these cases arise from non-compliance with professional rules and standards.

She also remarked on the stark contrast in gender distribution, as only one female teacher was deregistered during the period, compared to the large number of male teachers affected.
By March 2023, a total of 209 teachers had been deregistered, with 168 cases recorded in March 2023 and 41 in March 2024. This data suggests a potential rise in deregistration cases over the observed period.
Month-by-Month Analysis
Statistics reveal fluctuating numbers of deregistration cases. In March 2023, 36 teachers were deregistered. The figure peaked in August 2023, with 73 teachers removed from the register, before dropping to 13 in September.
