Ministry of Education Issues New University Admission Letters to 2023 KCSE Cohort

The Ministry of Education has announced that universities will be issuing new admission letters to the first batch of 125,893 students from the 2023 KCSE cohort who have applied for loans and scholarships under the new Student-Centred Model.

This follows President Dr. William Samoei Ruto’s directive on August 14th, 2024, instructing universities to release updated fee structures outlining the annual household contributions towards the total cost of degree programs.

Key Details:

• New Admission Letters: All universities have commenced the process of distributing updated admission letters to the First Year students. These letters are expected to reach students by Monday, August 19th, 2024.

• Student-Centred Model: The new funding model has been designed to allocate scholarships and loans based on students’ needs, categorized into five predetermined bands. This ensures that financial support is distributed fairly and equitably, taking into account the student’s economic background, family education expenditures, and other socio-demographic factors.
• Government Funding Commitment: The government has reaffirmed its dedication to providing quality and affordable higher education, with KSh. 25.3 billion earmarked for scholarships and loans for the 2024/25 academic year. This funding will be allocated to students who have applied under the new model, ensuring that no deserving student is left behind.

Application Process:

Students who have concerns or need to appeal the fees outlined in their new letters are encouraged to contact the dedicated support team through the Higher Education Portal at www.hef.co.ke. The Ministry has assured that the application portal will remain open, and additional applications will be processed swiftly on a rolling basis.

Eligible students who have not yet applied for funding are urged to do so promptly to ensure their applications are processed in a timely manner.
