Ministry of Education to Establish TVET Trainer Service Council for Hiring Trainers
To streamline the educational system, the Ministry of Education has produced a list of policies.
The National Education Policy, Sessional Paper 2024 stated that the Ministry, under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, would establish the TVET Trainer Service Council.
The goal is to hire TVET trainers across the nation. According to the survey, trainers play an important role in strengthening technical skills among trainees entering the job market.
There is no standardization in the country’s TVET trainer recruitment process.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) recruits trainers for institutions within the Ministry of Education and other ministries.
However, county governments, commercial organizations, and some state agencies recruit trainers based on their requirements, resulting in varying service schemes and working circumstances.
The formation of the council will close the gap and guarantee the employment of more TVET trainers in various institutions.
It will also alleviate the trainer deficit in public TVET institutions run by the Ministry of Education, as well as balance the trainee-trainer ratio.

Other objectives to strengthen TVET trainers announced by the ministry include the creation and execution of a framework for capacity building and industrial attachment for trainers in collaboration with industry stakeholders.
