Ministry to Replace Academic Certificates Lost in Floods, Sack Defiant Teachers — Machogu
Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu has announced that the Ministry is in the process of ensuring those who lost their academic certificates due to flooding receive new ones.
The Ministry of Education also announced that it would train all teachers and students on emergency evacuation protocols and first aid procedures to equip them to handle emergencies.
After presiding over the national tree planting event in Trans Nzoia County, Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu urged school heads not to ask parents to pay more than the ministry has specified.
Sacking of Teachers
Machogu reminded the Teachers Service Commission and county education directors that breaking Ministry of Education rules is illegal, and gave them instructions to follow the directive.

Machogu described those who deny Kenyan children the right to an education as enemies of progress, and he threatened to fire those who disobeyed orders.
In order to take appropriate action, he established a one-week deadline for all county heads of education to provide a full report on all schools that violated the mandate.
Machogu explained that the Ministry has stipulated parental school fee obligations for each category of school. For instance, in a national school, a parent is required to pay only Sh53,000, the same as in an extra-county school.
Parents only need to pay Sh45,000 for county schools, while day schools require no fees, except for the agreed-upon lunch program between the school and parents. He emphasized that a lack of fees should not lead to sending any child home.
Machogu defended the government’s decision to prolong the April break by two weeks, claiming that the right to life comes first.
Teachers Role
Teachers and parents will be responsible for ensuring the safety of nearly 3.5 million students in schools and responding quickly to emergencies.
The Ministry of Education announced a new plan on Friday to encourage parents to collaborate with teachers as school resumes.

Teachers will also be required to track absent students, keep up-to-date attendance records, and provide feedback to the ministry through regional directors.
Furthermore, head teachers will be required to guarantee that lost time is regained through planned courses, as it has been determined that no term extensions will be allowed.
