Ministry to Review Drama Festival Guidelines Following Butere Girls Incident.

The Ministry of Education has announced its intention to conduct a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the play Echoes of War by Butere Girls High School. This action comes after concerns arose over the adherence to established protocols.

Basic Education Principal Secretary, Julius Bitok, confirmed that the ministry would reassess the guidelines that govern the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival (KNDFF). The objective is to ensure tighter enforcement of the rules and avoid any similar incidents in the future.

In his statement, PS Bitok reaffirmed earlier comments by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba. He highlighted that Section 9.0, Note C of the KNDFF guidelines clearly prohibits the involvement of non-teaching staff, unregistered teachers, or individuals not affiliated with recognized educational institutions.

PS Bitok also clarified that, as of now, no disciplinary actions have been taken against the principal or the Board of Management of Butere Girls. He explained that any such measures will be based on the conclusions of the current investigation into the incident.
