MKU Launches Global Partnership Program with Germany and Austria

Mount Kenya University (MKU) recently announced the launch of a groundbreaking international partnership with institutions in Germany and Austria, aimed at providing students with global exposure and valuable experience in the healthcare sector.

This initiative is part of MKU’s commitment to fostering a global perspective among its students and preparing them for international careers.

MKU’s nursing students will benefit from an apprenticeship program at the University of Koblenz in Germany, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

This exchange allows students to gain hands-on experience in German hospitals, offering them a unique opportunity to understand various international healthcare systems.

In Austria, the program collaborates with Lebenshilfe Tirol, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities. This partnership provides another avenue for students to broaden their skills and experience in healthcare.

Language Proficiency and Cultural Integration

A significant component of the program is the requirement for German language proficiency. MKU emphasized that effective communication and cultural integration are essential for the success of the program.

To facilitate this, the university has appointed Ms. Charlotte Katharin Filbry as the language trainer.

She is tasked with preparing students with the necessary skills to navigate life in a new environment and fully immerse themselves in the learning experience.

Prof. Simon Gicharu, the founder of MKU, shared a personal experience highlighting the importance of language skills.

During a tour in Germany, he faced a language barrier that led to the unexpected loss of his camera, teaching him the crucial role of linguistic and cultural understanding. This underscores the real-life applications of the program’s language training.

Other MKU Initiatives

In addition to the international program, MKU is spearheading several other projects aimed at expanding opportunities for its students:

  • Malindi Maritime Academy: Establishment of a maritime academy to provide specialized training.
  • Esports Training Centre: Development of a center focused on esports education and training.
  • Innovation and Incubation Centre: A World Bank-funded initiative to support innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

These projects are designed to enhance the educational experience and broaden the scope of opportunities available to MKU students across various fields.

Commitment to Student Success

At the recent 25th graduation ceremony, Prof. Gicharu announced that certificates would be unconditionally released to graduates who were unable to collect them due to financial constraints.
