MKU Sends Nursing Graduates to Germany

Mount Kenya University (MKU) is embarking on an ambitious plan to send more than five thousand graduates to Germany.

Tuesday is the day that the first batch, which will consist of five nursing apprentices, is slated to depart. MKU provided preparatory classes and German language instruction to Kenyan apprentices before their placement.

According to MKU, German-accredited partner hospitals provided full sponsorship to the project’s recipients. The recipients received work permits, visas, employment contracts, and airline tickets to commence their paid apprenticeship.

Caritas Hospital, one of the project’s German partners, presented the apprentices with their documents and air tickets on Saturday. It has been made possible for them to begin their paid apprenticeships by providing them with work permits, visas, employment contracts, and airline tickets.

The pilot cohort, which includes Gekonge Mogambi, Aisha Wacuka, Hellen Okwaro, Bonciana Chepkorir, and Teresiah Muthoni, completed the preparation course after successfully completing the German language programme and achieving B2 proficiency.

This international programme is the result of a joint effort between Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, and President William Ruto of Kenya.

The deal, which was established in June 2023, has the objective of providing Kenyan nationals with a total of 250,000 work possibilities.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between MKU and the Koblenz Institute of Applied Sciences in Germany to create solutions for implementing the president’s vision of increasing job opportunities for Kenyans.

This agreement is in support of the president’s vision for the university. The purpose of this collaboration is to develop ways to achieve the goal of the president, which is to increase the number of work opportunities available to Kenyans.

MKU plans to prepare and send 5,000 students to Germany through this programme. Prof. Deogratious Jaganyi, the vice chancellor of MKU, noted that the project is in line with the government’s objective to expand possibilities for Kenyans abroad.

He emphasised the institution’s commitment to supporting the President’s vision by collaborating with German universities to equip Kenyans for employment opportunities in diverse areas of Germany.

MKU also has a cooperation agreement with Lebenshilfe Tirol of Austria, which allows nursing graduates to work in Austria. Initially, MKU intends to send 60 nursing graduates to Austria.
