Moi Girls High School Bus Carrying 52 Passengers Swept Away by Floods
The 52 passengers on the AIC Moi Girls High School bus narrowly escaped death after the vehicle they were traveling in was swept away by flooding.
The bus was donated to AIC Moi Girls in 2021 by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta as part of a package of ten buses that the government distributed to secondary schools and community institutions around the country.
On Sunday night, Samburu County Police Commander Thomas Ototo acknowledged to the press that the incident took place in Suradiru, within the same county.
A video obtained by Teachersupdates.news showed responders assisting the occupants stuck in the bus after it overturned.

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries had been recorded by the time we went to press.
According to reports, the crash occurred on Maralal-Wamba Road when the motorist attempted to cross a flooded river.
The tragedy occurred just hours before Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu extended the school’s reopening date to Monday, May 6.
According to a letter issued by the Ministry, the decision was made after Machogu learned that most schools had been hit by flooding caused by torrential downpours throughout the previous week.
This happens as twenty people have been reported dead after massive flash floods destroyed multiple homes in Kamuchiri Village, Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, following heavy rains.

The Kenya Red Cross reports that a neighboring river broke its banks on Sunday night, causing the floodwaters.
Naivasha police captain Stephen Kirui confirmed the occurrence, stating that numerous others had been brought to Naivasha Hospital for medical attention.
Kenya Police, the County Disaster Team, the Kenya Red Cross, and community members are on the scene.
