MP Seeks to Block TSC’s Teacher Transfers, Citing Disruption.

Sotik Member of Parliament, Francis Sigey, has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to immediately cease the transfer of teachers.

He warned that if the Commission fails to address this issue, he would table a motion in the National Assembly to demand action.

Sigey criticized TSC, arguing that the continued transfers have negatively impacted both development projects and the morale of teachers and students.

He expressed frustration with the transfers, describing them as illegal, especially since the delocalization policy had already been suspended.

Highlighting a specific case, Sigey mentioned Moi Minariet Secondary School, where the Principal was transferred on short notice.

He stated that this disruption was unacceptable, as such transfers halt progress in schools that had been developing under stable leadership.

“Some of the teachers have done a good job in developing their schools and when they are moved, the development stops. This is unacceptable and must stop,” he noted.

Call for Stakeholder Involvement

The MP emphasized the importance of involving all education stakeholders before implementing such decisions. He pointed out that proper consultations would ensure that any changes are beneficial rather than disruptive.

Sigey explained his stance, asserting that stakeholders, including teachers, parents, and local leaders, should have a voice in decisions affecting schools.

He added that without their input, the decisions often lead to unnecessary challenges in the education sector.

In response to the ongoing situation, Sigey announced his plans to present a motion in Parliament if TSC fails to halt the transfers. He indicated that this motion would compel the Commission to provide answers and reconsider its current practices.

He remarked, “If these transfers are not stopped, I will demand accountability from the Commission by tabling a motion. We cannot allow this disruption to continue.”

Addressing Teacher Shortages

Sigey also highlighted the issue of understaffing in public schools, which remains a significant challenge. He appealed to TSC to prioritize hiring more teachers to ensure uninterrupted learning in schools.

Challenges Identified:

  • Understaffing in public schools.
  • Frequent teacher transfers causing instability.
  • Lack of stakeholder consultation before decisions.

Sigey concluded by stressing the need for urgent action to address these challenges, advocating for solutions that support both teachers and students in achieving their educational goals.
