Multimedia University Student in Viral Video Claims Police Brutality was Intentional Murder Attempt.
Trevor Mathenge, a student from Multimedia University, is recovering from injuries inflicted by police officers.
He believes he narrowly escaped death in what he claims was a deliberate attempt to kill him during a student strike.
Eight students, including Trevor, have shared their experiences with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) as investigations into the police brutality continue.
These students provided detailed accounts of their mistreatment by law enforcement during the recent strike.
The Brutal Assault Captured on Video
A viral video captured the moment Trevor was brutally beaten by four uniformed police officers while lying on the ground.
The officers could be heard chanting death threats as they assaulted him. Trevor, pleading for mercy, was heard saying that he was innocent, desperately trying to convince the officers he had done nothing wrong.
Despite Trevor’s pleas, the officers continued to taunt him. They ordered him to stand up and go die elsewhere.
One officer, dressed in a Kenya Police combat uniform, cruelly grabbed Trevor’s private parts and dragged him across the floor.
As Trevor cried out, pleading that he was just a child like one of their own, the officers ignored his desperation and continued their assault.
Unable to stand due to the relentless blows, Trevor remained on the ground until another officer intervened.
The video then showed an officer pulling out a teargas canister, ready to use it on Trevor. A colleague pleaded with him to stop, but the officer agreed only reluctantly, warning that he was leaving Trevor “with medicine,” referring to the teargas canister.
A Miraculous Escape
In a tense moment, Trevor narrowly avoided the explosion of the teargas canister. The officer, noticing Trevor’s intent to escape, attempted to push him toward the explosive device, a move that could have caused severe injuries.
As the assault continued, Trevor was kicked repeatedly, even after telling the officers his leg was broken.
Another officer suggested killing him since he couldn’t stand, but one of their colleagues intervened, saying they couldn’t leave him in that state.
Eyewitnesses reported that, in addition to those captured in the viral video, another officer was responsible for firing a teargas canister that started a fire in one of the hostels.
This incident further highlights the excessive use of force by the police during the strike.
