MUSINGU SCHOOL TEACHERS HONOR THEIR CHIEF PRINCIPAL WITH A SPECIAL GIFT.

In many schools, principals are often perceived as villainous and sadistic figures, acting as combatants to staff, especially teachers. However, Musingu School, an extra-county institution in Kakamega County with a student population of 2,127, 86 teachers, 44 staff, and 26 casual workers, paints a different picture.

While many institutions expect leaders to serve as sources of motivation and reward agents for their subordinates, some staff members tend to place endless demands on school heads without acknowledging the socioeconomic challenges they face.

This disparity has often been the root cause of conflicts in schools. But do principals also deserve recognition and rewards? And if so, who should be responsible for acknowledging their efforts?

A heartfelt tribute to Mr. Bernard Toili Lukuya

On Wednesday, March 12th, a remarkable event unfolded during the release of internal exam results at the school assembly. Teachers and support staff, led by their welfare chairman, presented their chief principal, Mr. Bernard Toili Lukuya, with a he-goat and an envelope as a token of appreciation.

The students, not wanting to be left out, joined in the celebration, dancing joyfully to the song ‘Wandindi.‘

Mr. Lukuya, visibly moved, expressed his gratitude, stating that this unexpected gesture deeply humbled him. With 28 years of teaching experience, 24 of which have been in leadership, he affirmed that this act of kindness would further inspire him to serve with fairness, firmness, and love.

As the ceremony took place, light showers momentarily graced the skies, adding a symbolic touch to the special occasion.

Among the many who lauded Mr. Lukuya was Mr. Avodonya Nelson, a Business Studies and Mathematics teacher. He acknowledged the principal’s exceptional leadership, emphasizing how he appreciates the diverse strengths of his team while guiding them with care.

Mr. Nelson stated that working under Mr. Lukuya had been a rewarding experience, as he recognizes and nurtures the positive attributes in his staff while constructively addressing their weaknesses.

Musingu School’s remarkable Achievements

Musingu School has recently garnered significant recognition for its accomplishments in both academics and extracurricular activities.

The school’s hockey team, The Musingu Hockey Lions, clinched the East Africa championship, while their soccer team, The Scorpions, emerged as Kenya’s best during the 2024 FEASSA competitions. Academically, the school continues to regain its past glory, achieving a mean score of 7.15 in the 2024 KCSE results.

Musingu is also lauded for upholding exam integrity in both internal and national assessments. Exam malpractice is strictly prohibited, and any culprits face severe disciplinary action.

In recognition of his commitment to ethical examination practices, Mr. Lukuya was invited by KESSHA of Vihiga County earlier this term as the chief guest to address school heads on the impact of exam malpractice on learners. Under his leadership, a culture of honesty is strongly upheld at Musingu School.
