Mwalimu Abduba Dida Released After 3 Years in US Prison.
Former presidential aspirant Mwalimu Mohammed Abduba Dida has regained his freedom after completing a 3-year prison sentence in the United States. Initially sentenced to 7 years, Dida had been expected to remain incarcerated until April 3, 2029.
However, he was released early through parole. This form of conditional release allows an inmate to serve the remaining portion of their sentence outside prison under supervision, rather than completing it entirely behind bars.
According to documents from Big Muddy Correctional Facility in Illinois, Dida was released on March 3. For the rest of his sentence, he will be engaged in philanthropy services within the US as part of his parole conditions.
Dida had been incarcerated since November 18, 2022, following his conviction for intimidating and stalking his American spouse in the Midwestern region of the US. Court records show that his conviction stemmed from breaching a restraining order by entering a prohibited area.
The violation occurred when Dida visited a mosque located close to the home of the protected party. While his reported purpose was to attend prayers, the mosque’s proximity placed him in a restricted area, which led to his arrest and eventual sentencing.

Relatives of Dida stated that the breach had been unintentional. According to them, he was unaware that the mosque fell within a restricted zone, particularly because the individual protected by the order, Mama Lila, also frequented the same place of worship. His family is now calling on the government for legal support and assistance with his case.
Before his final transfer to the Big Muddy Correctional Centre, Dida was initially held at the Southwestern Correctional Center.
