Namelok Girls Students Go on Strike Over Teachers Shortage.
Learning at Namelok Girls Secondary School in Kajiado County was disrupted following a student strike that took place on Tuesday night.
The protest was a response to the failure of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to hire more teachers, which has affected the smooth delivery of lessons at the institution.
A parent, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that the school has been without an Agriculture teacher for the past year. This shortage has contributed to the unrest among the students.
Additionally, the students raised concerns about the hiring of a Form 4 leaver to teach other subjects, which they found inadequate for their educational needs.

The students also expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of sugar in their tea, a matter they cited during the protest. Furthermore, since the reopening of school for Term One on January 6, there has been a critical shortage of water, further exacerbating the students’ frustration.
Namelok Girls is not alone in facing such challenges. Many schools across the country are grappling with teacher shortages as the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) continues to be implemented, putting pressure on educational institutions to meet the new requirements.
